Kanshitsu (dry lacquer) technique; using a linen cloth soaked with lacquer, which is pasted onto a mold made of wood, clay, or plaster. With colored lacquer a smooth pattern texture is created on top part of chestnut, while bottom has a rough texture.
With original signed box, inscription reads: kanshitsu, chestnut (kuri), kōgō.
*Born in Murakami city, Niigata prefecture. Exhibited in the prefectural Niigata exhibition and won the encouragement prize six times. Exhibited ten times at the prestigious state-sponsored Japan Fine Arts Exhibition (Nitten), in 1966 at the Contemporary Crafts Art exhibition, in 1979 and 1980 at the Japan New Crafts exhibition. Won a prize in 1995 at the Japan Crafts assocation. Member of the Japan Crafts Association, Friend of the Nitten, and member of the New Niigata Prefecture Crafts Association.
